You write well. A unique personal account of what it means to be feminine and ‘feminist’ (kind of) at the same time. I guess having those particular memories, family history and experiences helped.

And I’ve always how accurate some of the media imagery of the fighting women (partisans, soldiers) of the former Soviet Union during WW2 was. Now I know that it’s somewhat accurate, or some of it is.

i think you write very well, and could write even better of you DID let the seams show once in a while. sometimes prose can get stilted or (heaven forbid) boring from pristinery. (there, i just coined a new word.)
