You know what is absolutely the craziest thing ever, ever, ever? Both my cousin and myself were victims of sexual abuse by our grandmother’s husband (not my grandfather) when we were very, very young (I don’t even remember it, but it was provable) and my mother STILL suggested that this now-woman, then-13-year-old, was doing this for money. You can bet we had a little conversation about that, and she quickly changed her tune. But in our society, if even someone with DIRECT personal experience is willing to overlook this? I hope some kind of higher power can save us.
