Maintenance

Since moving to WordPress and starting my new job, I have not stayed in touch with as many people as I would have liked. If I am not linking to your blog and yet ought to, or something, don’t pout, let me know. If we don’t know each other and you want me to link to your blog, holla. Send me a link, I’ll check it out, and if it’s fun and un-creepy, if you’re not a serial killer or a raving lunatic, I would most likely be delighted to link. I am always looking for cool new blogs. I am well aware of the fact that 99% of blogs out there far surpass my own in coolness. Or maybe it’s more like 1%, but who’s counting?

A little birdie also told me that some of my old professors are reading this blog. Hello. See? Although this blog has my name on it, it is un-gossipy (yes, I know I am butchering the English language). It is quite dignified, actually. Or about as dignified as I can make it. Am trying.

I have received several complaints about Girgione’s “Venere Dormiente,” but, much like the Confederate flag in some circles (a certain West Virginia gas station comes to mind), she ain’t coming down. There. If you feel the urgent need to masturbate or otherwise involve yourself in “sinful” activities upon coming face-to-face with this delightful piece of Renaissance art, introduced into my humble existence by an esteemed professor, it’s not my problem. Like a nude Kate Moss, this Venus is innocent, not prurient. You’re the pervert. Not Girgione. There.

  1. Oh, I wouldn’t mind it in the least, and neither, I suspect, would Girgione. What I don’t like is when people are excited/disturbed by such a lovely image, and then try to tell me I’m a bad person for using it.

  2. Don’t enjoy yourselves to much without me. Then again, that’s impossible, because Rann hates the Joyce.

  3. Really, Rann? Because I saw you wandering around outside one night when I was at the Federal. I would have said hello, but you sort of drifted away and out of sight.

Anna, you’re just jelus that the goats like me more.

  4. Ummm, no. The goats are Mary’s (not so) little secret. And you shouldn’t be talking. You date It.

  5. Just to say hallo, and long time no seen, and the things like that

The previous try got censored (not sure why), but will be laconic in hope that the one before got butchered for it’s prolixity 🙂

    Cheers

  6. OH MY GOD!

    GEORGE!

The comments don’t get censored – I just have to approve every new commenter.

    HOW ARE YOU?

I hardly use my hotmail account anymore, btw.

    Цём цём!

  7. I’ve recently discovered your blog. I’m impressed – added you to my blogroll as result. For someone so young, you seem rather wise. It would be a pleasure to read your book once it comes out.

  8. Thanks to you too. Stop by any time. And if you have time to comment, please do. It’s one of those things that makes blogging an interactive pleasure -M

  9. RE: Linking to other blogs

It might be inappropriate for a nonblogger (me) to recommend to a blogger (yourself) a link to a third blog, but with that in mind, I would like to recommend the following English-language Eastern European blog:

    The URL is: http://www.transparent.com/TLBlog/Russian

The blog’s title is “Russian Language and Culture.”

The online name of the blogger is “Josefina,” who I think is a Swedish student at a Russian university. Her blog is mostly in English, but includes posts on Russian-language usage and grammar which include Russian-language citations in Cyrillic characters. Josefina is extremely well-informed about the Russian language and her posts about Russian usage and grammar are hugely helpful for English speakers. On this blog, Josefina also posts about current events in Russia, aspects of Russian culture, and her travels in Russia. The sparse commentary on the blog is mostly in English, but includes Russian citations, and seems to be well-informed and high-minded.

One of her most recent posts (on June 2, 2008), is entitled “How to Blog in Russian,” and discusses Russian verbs for blogging. It’s an interesting post.

Whether or not you think this blog is worth linking to, of course, is entirely up to you. But I thought this blog was worth the attention of yourself and your readers, even if you decide not to link to it.
