I don’t support the “death penalty” as a punishment for criminal activity — however, at some point, a person moves beyond mere criminality and becomes a ubiquitous physical incarnation of evil — such people need to be removed from this Earth.
I’m not against the death penalty as long as the person in question receive fair trial, death penalty murderer ordained by God himself.
I don’t believe in a God who’s out for blood.
Although I agree with Tricky – the incarnation of evil is clearly there. And if I were forced to defend myself and/or my family against that man – I’d probably kill him too.
But this isn’t self-defense now, is it? It’s become political.
He is a mass-murdering fuck head but there is no such thing as the incarnation of evil. Evil acts sure but no manifestation of evil on earth.
If you talked to Saddam I’m sure he thinks his actions were really necessary and justifiable, in context.
And murder is always wrong.
Is this the brand of justice we wish to deomstrate to the Iraqis? Might an element of mercy meant something?
What really surprises me is that they are going through with it despite the political ramifications.
I was sure he’d sit, under sentence of death, in a prison for the rest of his life.
Isn’ t this going to just inflame the Sunni minority more? Executing their former figurehead?
Rarely do morality and politcal expediency come together.
What a shame it has to be for the preservation of the life of a mass murdering fuck head.
Yeah, it sure is a mess out there.

The entire ‘trial’ was a travesty of justice. This is exactly why international tribunals were set up. Of course, if that happened, someone might point out in court that the US supplied those lovely little chemical weapons….
Having said that, I think that the best course of action would have been to declare him not guilty and free to go, then release him on the streets of Baghdad.
Oh wait, that, I wanna do that!
Why didn’t somebody suggest that YESTERDAY?

I am against the death penalty because, growing up in TN, I watched so many innocent people fall between the cracks in the system. I cannot imagine how many innocents have been executed in my country.
That said, Saddam’s record is pretty much unquestioned….let him burn. I don’t think anyone will bring up DNA evidence in the next 10 years to exonerate him.
No. Saddam’s record being unquestioned is precisely the point: whether or not he’s guilty, he has a right to a fair trial.
I really can’t stand those ‘I’m against the death penalty but….’ arguments.
I never said he should be hung without a fair trial.
I really can’t stand it when people put words in my mouth.
I also can’t stand kittens. Why do people think they’re so cute anyway?
Because if you don’t accept that kittens are your masters, you are contributing to the collapse of society.
Duh!
